Comprehensive Listing of Key Palliative Care Tools Now Online

November 6, 2002

Promoting Excellence in End-of-Life Care announces the addition to its Web site of a critical new resource to the clinical and research fields of palliative care. "Key Clinical Assessment and Research Tools" is the culmination of over a year's efforts compiling important tools that are validated and used with palliative care populations and are of interest to palliative care providers and researchers.

The primary goal of the collection is to provide an easy way for providers and researchers to access the tools - a "one stop shop" for palliative care instruments. In working with its grantees in the field, the Promoting Excellence in End-of-Life Care program office realized that busy clinicians and researchers often need to find instruments on short notice. Ira Byock, M.D., the Promoting Excellence in End-of-Life Care Director and one of the authors of the resource (along with Melanie Merriman, M.B.A, Ph.D.) states, "As a clinician I have already used the Web site. I realized that I can find tools on the Web site that I need for my clinical practice and my research in palliative care much faster and more reliably than I can find them in my own paper files." For easy retrieval, the tools are organized both alphabetically and by topic. For those tools whose authors prefer not to post them on the Web, information on the tools or links to Web sites where they can be obtained are provided.
