The theme of the Promoting Excellence 2002 annual meeting was "Improving
the Future of End-of-Life Care: Launching Lessons Learned." Grantees
were awarded in 1998; more than three years into their projects, many had
outcomes to report. Although they had the opportunity to hear national speakers,
including Nobel Peace Prize winner H. Jack Geiger, MD, they also requested
time to listen to each other at the meeting. This request came as no surprise--national
and international conference agendas often bill members of the Promoting
Excellence group as speakers and presenters. In general, the presentations
provided below focus on preliminary outcomes and lessons learned with a special
emphasis on how programs improved access to and quality of care, as well as
cost.
