Mission Statement

To foster long-term changes in health care institutions to expand access to services and improve quality of care for dying people and their families.

We Fulfill Our Mission by:

Providing direction and technical assistance to innovative demonstration projects in end-of-life care settings and addressing particular challenges to existing models of hospice and palliative care.

Providing funding, direction and technical assistance to special projects that advance our mission and goals.

Providing funding, direction and technical assistance to peer workgroups consisting of clinicians, researchers and consumer advocates in specific disciplines with the goal of creating change and extending palliative care within these specific realms of health care.

Demonstrating and communicating that specific innovative approaches improve the quality of and accessibility to excellent palliative care in ways that are feasible and acceptable to major stakeholders.

Our Guiding Principles:

  • We believe that people are entitled to excellent, individualized care during illness and through the end of life.
  • We believe that bringing together clinical leaders in related disciplines can catalyze the integration of palliative care throughout the health care system.
  • We believe that end-of-life care can be improved through increased communication within communities, families and care-giving relationships.
  • We strive to serve as a resource to leaders, practitioners and researchers.
  • We model what we teach and promote and strive for excellence in everything we do.
  • We provide a supportive and nurturing work environment.
